In the update for MY22, the TVS Apache RTR 160 and 180 get a few styling tweaks, new features, more power and weight savings for slightly improved performance

TVS Motor Company has given the Apache RTR 160 and RTR 180 a mid-life update. The motorcycles get fresh styling, connected tech and also shed some weight for better dynamics.

TVS Apache RTR 160 and 180 design and features

The Apache 160 and 180 twins retain the basic design of their previous iterations with the addition of new graphics and LED lighting all around. The latter is available in five colour options — Gloss Black, Pearl White, Racing Red, Matte Blue and T-Grey, while the former gets two shades — Gloss Black and Pearl White. Both the variants get a segment-first feature. Three riding modes, namely — Sport, Urban and Rain. And both also feature a fully digital instrument cluster with TVS' SmartXonnect tech with Voice Assistance and turn-by-turn navigation.

Moreover, the RTR twins also get a gear position indicator with shift assist. TVS has also improved its Connect App with a new User Interface to enhance customer experience. Both the RTR 160 and RTR 180, (apart from the drum variant of the RTR 160), get single-channel ABS as standard.

The underpinnings of the RTR twins see no changes in the update. Both continue to boast a telescopic fork at the front and a twin-shock setup at the rear. But both motorcycles now get an X-ring chain that is more durable and a, wider than before, 120mm section rear tyre.

TVS has tuned both the RTR 160 and RTR 180's engines to produce more power too. The RTR 160 gets a 159cc air-cooled mill which produces 15.8bhp and 13.8Nm torque. The RTR 180 on the other hand is powered by a 177cc liquid-cooled engine which churns out 16.8bhp and 15.5Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a five-speed transmission.

Commenting on the launch, Mr Vimal Sumbly, Head Business - Premium, TVS Motor Company, said, “The TVS Apache series has been built on the racing heritage of TVS Racing to bring superior products into the market that connect with our customers and racing enthusiasts.
