2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 unveiled globally

The 2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 is a middleweight ADV that is based on the Trident 660

After much teasing and anticipation, the 2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 has finally been unveiled globally. This news comes barely weeks after the unveiling of the absolutely gorgeous Speed Triple 1200 RR! We had earlier reported news of a Triumph Tiger Sport 660 teaser, and now we finally have all the information about the middleweight adventure motorcycle. The 2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 is a more road-focused adventure motorcycle and it will be the entry point for customers into the Tiger lineup.

2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 Design

Unlike its bigger, more powerful siblings, the 2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 looks a lot more road biased. The design of the Tiger Sport 660 fits its purpose very well — it’s a more road-focused motorcycle designed for long-distance touring, and maybe the occasional off-road track. It’s not a hardcore off-roader and that’s evident by the bike it derives a lot of its components from — the Trident 660. It sports a front fairing which houses slim twin LED headlamps, along with a windscreen for protection against wind blast at higher speeds. The 2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 will be offered in three dual paint options — Lucerne Blue and Sapphire Black, Korosi Red and Graphite, and lastly Graphite and Black.

2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 Powertrain and Chassis

The 2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 is powered by an inline three-cylinder 660cc engine that has been derived from the Trident 660. This engine produces 80bhp at 10,250rpm whereas peak torque stands at 64Nm at 6250rpm which is identical to the outputs of the Trident 660. It also gets the same 6-speed transmission.

Since the Tiger Sport 660 is based on the Trident 660, it features the same tubular steel perimeter frame with a twin-sided steel swingarm. Even the suspension and braking setup has been carried over from the Trident 660. The Triumph Tiger Sport 660 gets 41mm USD separate function forks from Showa with 150mm of wheel travel, while the rear sports a Showa monoshock with preload adjustability and 150mm of wheel travel as well. The braking setup comes from Nissin — you get 310mm twin discs mounted on twin-piston axially-mounted calipers at the front. Meanwhile the rear gets a 255mm disc mounted on a single-piston caliper.

In making the Tiger Sport 660 a more friendly bike to tour on, the addition of the fairing and other elements have resulted in a 17kg weight gain, tipping the scales at 206kg. Additionally it gets a slightly longer wheelbase at 1418mm, a taller 835mm seat height, and a bigger 17.2-litre fuel tank. The Tiger Sport 660 sports 17-inch Michelin Road 5 high-performance tyres on both ends.

2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 Equipment and Technology

There’s plenty of kit on offer on the 2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660. You get a multifunction TFT instrument cluster which is very similar to the one seen on the Trident 660. It also boasts of smartphone connectivity which enables music streaming, calls, messaging, turn-by-turn navigation, and GoPro control. These functions can be operated via the switchgear. Triumph also offers two riding modes — Road and Rain, which alter the characteristics of the motorcycle. Additionally, the Tiger Sport 660 is equipped with ABS, switchable traction control, a slip-assist clutch, and self-canceling turn indicators. Besides, Triumph will also offer a range of 40+ accessories, some of which include new full-integrated panniers, a two-helmet top box, an underseat USB charger, heated palm grips, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, and scrolling indicators.

There’s no denying the fact that the 2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 could be an attractive package for someone looking to enter the world of big adventure bikes, but isn’t quite ready for hardcore off-roading. An India launch hasn’t been confirmed yet but it is extremely likely that the bike would make it’s way to Indian shores sometime next year. When launched, the 2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 will be priced at premium over the Trident 660 and it will go up against the Suzuki V-Strom 650, the Kawasaki Versys 650
