The company’s first BS-VI compliant fuel-injected scooter takes the battle to the newly launched Hero Maestro Edge 125
Honda has unveiled the company’s first BS-VI compliant scooter, the Honda Activa 125. This is also the first scooter from the Japanese giant in India to get a fuel-injected engine.
Last month, Hero launched their first scooter with fuel injection, the Maestro Edge 125. Though Honda is yet to announce the pricing, the scooter will be available from the end of the second quarter of 2019-20. For the first time in the scooter segment in India, Honda is offering a six-year warranty package that includes an optional three-year warranty.
Well, a lot! The scooter gets a new ‘ACG starter’. This eliminates the need for a conventional starter motor by using the same AC generator used to charge the battery while riding.
Another new feature is the ‘Idling Stop System’ which shuts off the engine if it’s been idling for a while. To start, all it needs is a twist of throttle. This is just like Hero Motocorp’s’s i3s technology. The new BS-VI Activa 125 also boasts of an offset cylinder, lightweight crankshaft and piston, reducing overall engine friction and weight impact.
The instrument console of the Activa 125 also has been updated. The scooter gets three new real-time informatics -Range, average and real-time fuel efficiency. The scooter also gets a malfunction light to alert the rider in case of any serious issues.
The scooter also gets a side stand indicator with engine inhibitor, a segment first feature that prevents the engine from starting when the side stand is engaged.
The styling of the scooter has been updated too. It now gets revised LED position lamps and a chrome finish on the front and the side panels. Other changes include a glove box at the front, and even external fueling, giving the new Activa 125 an 18-litre underseat storage.
Though the engine specs are yet to be revealed, expect the scooter to produce a wee more power than the carburetted version.
