With the launch of this motorcycle, Honda becomes the first manufacturer to have both, a bike and a scooter complying with the upcoming emission norms
In September 2019, Honda launched the BS-VI-compliant Activa 125 and in these two months, the brand has already sold more than 25,000 scooters. Now, Honda has launched its first BS-VI-compliant motorcycle, christened as SP 125 at Rs 72,900. The bike goes up against the likes of Hero Glamour Fi and Bajaj Discover 125.
The styling of the Honda SP 125 is a bit towards the sportier side. The headlight is a sharp looking unit, sporting LED lights, the tank design is sharp and sports aggressive shrouds. The bike will be available in four vibrant colours.
The SP 125 is powered by a 124cc, fuel-injected, single-cylinder, air-cooled motor, producing 10.7bhp at 7,500rpm and 10.9Nm at 6,000rpm which is 0.5bhp and 0.6Nm more than the Shine SP 125. The engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox. Honda claims that the engine is 16 percent efficient than the CB Shine SP’s engine.
The bike gets a digital console packing plethora of information like fuel-efficiency(real-time, average and range), gear position indicator, service due indicator and other information like trip, clock etc.
The SP 125 shares its underpinnings with the Shine SP 125, and gets the same diamond type frame, telescopic front fork, and 5-step adjustable twin-shock absorbers. Customers can either opt for an all-drum variant or a 240mm disc at the front and a 130mm drum at the rear. The bike gets new tyres with special compound that the company claims to reduce rolling resistance for better fuel economy.
Just like with Activa 125, Honda has introduced a 6-year warranty package, which includes 3-year standard warranty and 3 years optional extended warranty.
With the BS-VI-norms kicking in from April 2020, manufacturers have started rolling out the updated products. The SP 125 joins the league of the Hero Splendor iSmart, Yamaha FZ-FI and FZS-FI to adapt the new emission norms.
