The all-new adventure tourer features the S 1000 RR’s inline-four motor and much more
BMW’s flagship adventure tourer is finally here in India at a starting price of Rs 20.9 lakh, ex-showroom. The S 1000 XR goes up against the Ducati Multistrada 1260 which costs Rs 19.6 lakh, ex-showroom. Unlike the F 900s, BMW has priced the S 1000 XR relatively higher. Let’s find out more about this big-bore ADV that features the S 1000 RR’s brilliant motor.
The S 1000 XR features BMW’s familiar XR design language and looks very similar to to the recently launched F 900 XR. It gets an adjustable windshield, full-LED setup along with integrated parking lights. However, the USP of the S 1000 XR has to be the motor sourced from the S 1000 XR, of course, in a detuned manner. It skims on VVT (ShiftCam in BMW dictionary) and makes do with 163bhp @ 11,000rpm and 114Nm @ 9,250rpm. The 999cc, inline-four motor also gets a lower compression ratio and weighs a lot more as well at 226kg. The 4th, 5th and 6th gears have longer ratios, low noise level, lower fuel consumption and lower engine rpm at cruising speeds. The motorcycle sprints from 0-100 km/hr in just 3.3 seconds and can achieve a top speed of over 200 km/hr, claims BMW.
The all-new BMW S 1000 XR has four standard riding modes – Rain, Road, Dynamic and Dynamic Pro. The ‘Dynamic Pro’ mode is fully configurable and offers riders a wide range of setting options to suit their riding style. The throttle response, engine brake, ABS control (Anti-lock Braking System) and traction control, wheelie control (including the new ‘Power Wheelie’ setting) can be configured separately for the first time. The adventure tourer features the latest generation of BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) as standard. bi-directional quickshifter and cruise control is standard too.
The 6.5- inch colour TFT screen instrument cluster along with BMW Motorrad connectivity in addition to the BMW Motorrad Connected App offers navigation suitable for day-to-day use directly on TFT screen.
Bookings for the S 1000 XR are already open and you can buy the CBUs at your nearest BMW dealership.
