BMW Motorrad announces the R nineT/ 5 model

BMW Motorrad has announced the R nineT /5 model. The model has been made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the /5 Series of motorcycles and also marks 50 years of BMW Motorrad production at the Berlin Spandau plant.

Styling and Design:

The R nineT /5 perfectly captures the essence of the /5 series motorcycles, and it definitely looks more old than new. And that definitely works in its favour. The anniversary model dons a Lupin blue metallic paint finish and has a strip that runs along the fuel tank which also houses the anniversary emblem. Extensive use of chrome on the mirrors, the exhaust manifold and the rear silencer have been incorporated to pay homage to the original /5 Series bikes. The similarities don’t end there. The coating of the engine, gearbox, fork slider tubes, wheel hubs and spokes are all made out of aluminium and components like the frame, and propeller shaft casing don a black finish. The bike also uses gaiters on the forks and a double seat contoured like the /5 Series which have cross embossed covers, grab straps and white piping that runs across fuel tank and seat.

Specs:

The bike retains the 1170cc boxer engine that is connected to the rear tyre with a universal shaft and puts out 108.6bhp of power at 7750rpm and 116Nm of torque at 6000rpm and the engine redlines at 8500rpm. The bike gets ABS, ASC (automatic stability control) and heated grips as standard. It uses telescopic forks with a 125mm travel upfront and the rear suspension is good for 120mm of travel. Braking duties are taken care of by Brembo calliper gripping twin 320mm discs up front and a single 265mm rotor at the back. The bike weighs in at 219kg (wet).

The R nineT /5 is an apt throwback to the OG /5 Series and other BMW’s of the past and makes for great addition to the already extensive R nineT line up.
