KTM 790 Duke spotted in India, likely to launch soon

Amidst all the speculations of a deferred launch, the 790 Duke has now appeared in Bengaluru with a KA TC registration plate and the government-mandated saree guard attached

The KTM 790 Duke is one of the most hotly anticipated motorcycles for India. The launch was deferred until next year as the rumour mills suggested but the sudden appearance of a KA registered plate bike has got the enthusiasts curious. Interestingly, the bike seen in the pictures also gets a steering damper and a saree guard. A saree guard is mandatory to sell a motorcycle in India and that clearly suggests an imminent launch.

The 790 Duke is expected to be limited to 100 units for now and will be brought via CKD route. Which means, the on-road price will be a tad bit higher thanks to the GoI taxation methods. We expect the ex-showroom price to be in the range of Rs 7-8 lakh.

The 790 Duke will be powered by KTM's LC8c 799cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that makes 103bhp and 86Nm of torque. The engine will come mated to a six-speed gearbox. Ride-by-wire comes standard, offering four riding modes – Track, Sport, Road and Rain. The picture also reveals the Maxxis Supermaxx ST tyres which have been carried over from the international variant.

The 790 Duke will face tough competition in the Indian market from Ducati Monster 821, Triumph Street Triple S, Yamaha MT-09, MV Agusta Brutale (not considering the price), Kawasaki Z900, Suzuki GSX-S750 and Aprilia Shiver 900.

As of now, speculations are rife for the launch date as soon as September 5, are our fingers are crossed. Hope KTM answers our collective prayers this time!
