Touted to be the most exciting launch of the year, Suzuki Motorcycles India has teased what appears to be the Gixxer 250. Though the company has not confirmed the model, it is highly unlikely that it will be a mere update. This new motorcycle would fight it out in the highly competitive sub-2 lakh segment. Going by the teaser image, it appears to be a faired motorcycle. The bike may not be outright sporty like the KTM RC200. We expect this bike to be a sporty commuter just like the Hero Xtreme 200S and the Yamaha Fazer25. To keep the Gixxer 250 relevant in the market, expect the pricing to be under Rs 1.6 lakh.
It’s been over a year that the internet has been filled with rumours of a 250cc motorcycle is being developed by Suzuki. We feel it might keep the Gixxer tag since the brand has grown so strong in the country. This won’t be the first 250cc offering from Suzuki. The Inazuma 250, launched in 2014, was the first 250cc product in India. However, it failed to garner audience owing to its sky high price and plain Jane styling.
The new bike is likely to get a single cylinder air-cooled engine to keep the price low. Expect the bike to have an output between 22bhp-26bhp and skip premium bits like USD forks, clip on bars and dual-channel ABS. We hope that the Gixxer 250 will not be equipped with a 5-speed gearbox like the Yamaha FZ25.
