Maxxis tyres inaugurates first plant in India

Maxxis Rubber India opens its first facility in the country as it aims to cater to the two-wheeler market. Prior to this, Maxxis has imported tyres to the country from their Thailand and Indonesian plants but with they have received great support from the Gujarat government to help make tyres in India.

The plant is spread over 106 acres of land inside the GIDC area of Sanand, Gujarat and took a year and a half to build the entire facility. Production has begun with the first phase allowing Maxxis to produce nearly 20,000 tyres and 40,000 tubes in a single day! The production will be ramped up by another forty thousand tyres in the next phase and the final phase will bring the production capacity to 72,000 tyres by the year 2021. The additional 12,000 tyres in the final phase will include four-wheeler tyres well.

Maxxis is the global leader in two-tyres in terms of the production numbers. They are OEM suppliers to Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India with their scooter tyres plying on the highly successful Honda Activa. Given that performance motorcycle manufacturer KTM makes use of Maxxis Supermaxx ST tyres on the brand new 790 Duke, this facility could very well help the Austrian bike maker to price the motorcycle at an even attractive price point whenever it does go on sale in the country. With an investment of nearly $400 billion (₹2640 crores), Maxxis aims to capture a 15 per cent market share in two-wheeler tyres by the year 2023.

“With a rich global experience of over fifty years, Maxxis utilises the most advanced manufacturing equipment and engineering facilities in the industry. We are committed to delivering the same world-class quality products and services that customers in world-class and deserve,” said Jia-Ciao Liou, spokesperson Maxxis India.

“The plant currently employs a workforce of 600 people and we are working to extend our manpower to 2000 human resources within a span of five years”, he added.
