TVS Apache RR 310 launched at Rs 2.05 lakh

BMW–TVS partnership has finally delivered its first product in the country; popularly known by its code name Akula, the Apache RR 310 is priced at Rs 2.05 lakh. Establishing TVS Motor’s entry in the premium motorcycle segment, the Apache RR 310 is a fully faired sport bike that comes with BMW’s technological backing.

The Apache RR 310 is a very good looking machine and derives a lot of elements from not just Ducati sportsbikes but also from Triumph Daytona. You also get top shelf kit including USD Kayaba forks, dual channel ABS, bi-LED projector headlamps and a vertically mounted digital instrument cluster. The saddle height is a friendly 810mm while the kerb weight is 169.5kg, heavier than the KTMs.

Based on a trellis frame, the Apache RR 310 comes equipped with a liquid cooled, 312cc, reverse mounted, single cylinder engine that also does duty in the BMW G310 R and G310 GS, due for launch next year. Power output is a modest 33bhp @ 9,700rpm and the maximum twist available at the wrist is 27.3Nm at 7700rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox, a much needed upgrade over the Apache RTR 200. A lot of wind tunnel testing has led to a drag coefficient ratio of just 0.26, which TVS claims is the best in its class allowing the RR 310 to hit 60kmph in just 2.9 seconds, getting all the way to a top speed of 160kmph.

The launch also commemorated 35 years of TVS Racing and a lot of thought has gone into the making of the motorcycle, including the after sales initiatives. Owners will be able to participate in the Apache Racing Experience track events held across India with a 3 level program based on the skills of the rider. There will also be an Apache Owners Group formation to build a community and there will also be a factory tour programme for owners to see the bikes being built and also meet experienced factory riders to understand the product better.

Priced at Rs 2.05 lakh, Apache RR 310 has a lot going for it. The other single cylinder faired motorcycles in the segment include everything from the Pulsar RS 200 all the way to RC 390 and the RR 310 holds its middle ground well. If you are intending to get one, it is available only in two colours right now and bookings begin by the end of this month.
