In conversation with Amanda Gomez

A biker, a doctor and a rescuer of the furry friends, meet Amanda Gomez, who rides a Ducati 959 Panigale and also is a proud owner of the Kawasaki ZX-6R.

How did it all start?

It all started in 2009 when my brother’s close friend taught me how to ride even though my feet wouldn’t touch the ground on his Pulsar 150. He would sit behind me and keep his legs down on the ground while I learnt the basics of how to leave the clutch while simultaneously opening the throttle. Soon enough I learnt how to ride well.

How do you feel as a woman biker?

As a woman biker, I feel no different. The bike sees no age, gender or race. If you know how to connect to your machine, it will do exactly what you want.

In terms of society, I am given way too much credit just because I’m a girl. It’s stupid because some guys go unrecognised even though they are way better riders. But you know that’s how the world works!

Juggling riding and your profession

Fortunately for me, I don’t work 9-5 anymore, which gives me the freedom to ride as and when I like. A truly dedicated biker is one who works like crazy and yet manages to find enough time for his/her motorcycle.

Favourite motorcycle yet?

My most favourite motorcycle is the BMW S1000 RR. I’ve ridden her only once but that was enough for me to fall in love. The superior Brembo braking system with those gorgeous Ohlins is mind blowing. It just gives you the confidence to ride faster! Even a potato could ride that bike considering the amount of electronic aids it has. She’s a tamed beast!

Being an inspiration

Honestly more than a biker, I’d like to inspire people to be better human beings. I’m an avid animal lover and my rescue work has inspired a lot of my followers to care for our furry friends. Nowadays everyone calls themselves an ‘influencer’ but I wonder what kind of Influence they hold over the choices of their followers.

Message to girls

Other woman riders, gone are the days where it’s a big deal just to be able to ride a motorcycle. It’s time we get serious about this and start improving our lap times and work on our skill sets.
