After two rounds of gruelling selection process held over the past few days for the TVS Women’s racing series, 17 out of 75 prospective women racers have been shortlisted to race in the 2018 season. The first round of selection took place in Mumbai and Bengaluru, followed by the final selection which was conducted at the MMRT in Chennai. 40 women racers made it to the final round after which 17 racers were shortlisted based on their lap timing, physical fitness and racing abilities. The selected racers will be taking part in the racing series beginning from June, where they will race the race spec TVS Apache RTR 200.  Prior to the championship, they will be trained under the supervision of national level racers from TVS Racing to keep their momentum going. The women’s one make racing series is currently in its second season. The inaugural season saw 15 women racers take part in 4 races to get the top honours.

On the selection of the finalists for the series, B Selvaraj, team manager, TVS Racing, said, “We introduced an all-women racing academy in 2016 with a focus on training and equipping talented women racers to enter the mainstream racing arena.  With each passing year, I am delighted to see the increasing number of participants for the training and selection process – which is a testimony to our effort of creating a democratic space for motorsports in India.  The 2018 team looks promising and I am confident that the rigour and spirit, which they brought to the selection rounds will translate in superior performance on the race track.”
