Honda has launched their middleweight supersport, the CBR650R in India at Rs 7.70 lakh, ex-showroom, pan India. The bike was first showcased at EICMA 2018 and now it has finally made it to our shores. Bookings had started two months ago, at Rs 15,000, at all the Honda ‘Wing World’ dealerships across the country.

Powering the Honda CBR650R

Powering the bike is a liquid-cooled DOHC, inline-four 649cc powerhouse. The bike makes 87bhp at 11500rpm and 60Nm of torque at 8000rpm. This is about 5bhp and 3Nm less than what the international spec motorcycle makes. However, power increases only marginally compared to the CBR650F by about 2bhp. Compared to the earlier model, the bike has received a major overhaul and has a 6kg lighter chassis than the predecessor. The bike gets styling cues from the track-bred siblings.

The CBR650R gets the assist/slipper clutch for aggressive downshifts and smoother corner entry. Honda has given the CBR650R dual radially-mounted calipers at the front with a single-pot caliper at the rear. Honda has also replaced the dated digital console from the 650F with a swanky LCD display that displays gear position and has a shift indicator too. Finally, the bike also gets Honda’s Selectable Torque Control that maintains rear wheel traction, which the rider can switched off as well.
