Harley Davidson patents Pan America, Custom 1250 and Streetfighter 975. India bound?

Harley Davidson filed patents for the Pan America, Custom 1250 and the Streetfighter 975. What’s the big deal? The patent designs have a saree guard! Usually, for imported motorcycles, saree guards spoil the motorcycles’ appearance only during the homologation process and not when the company files the first patents of the bikes. With most of the products from Harley Davidson on sale in India, it’s no secret that Harley considers India as an important market, especially after the American giant’s decision to start the manufacturing and the export of Street 500 and the Street 750.

Last year Harley Davidson gave us the shocker of the century with the company’s decision to make more than just cruisers. The company announced its decision to build Pan America, a full-blown ADV to take on the likes of the Triumph Tiger, Ducati Multistrada, and the BMW R 1200 GS. Well, Harley didn’t stop there and plans to introduce no less than nine streetfighters and five custom models from 500cc to 1250cc machines.

Harley Davidson Pan America 1250

The Pan America 1250 will be the first adventure-tourer from the American cruiser giant. The concept looks ready to take on any terrain yet it screams Harley design all over. The patent images have a few design changes like the cast wheels replacing the wire-spoke wheels of the concept. The exposed frame under the seat in the concept shown is now covered with an extended panel. The rear too seems to be redesigned with the fender extending outwards. The bike also features a shark-fin style chain-guard. And you just can’t miss the saree guard.

Harley Davidson Custom 1250

This is nothing new for a company that has been one of the 116 year old cruiser giant. The Custom 1250’s patent image is very similar to the concept showcased last year and features a high-mounted exhaust, tubular swingarm with a license plate holder, a ingle headlamp unit and conventional mirrors.

Harley Davidson streetfighter 975

The Harley-Davidson Streetfighter 975 is the radical new motorcycle from the Milwaukee company. The bike will feature a brand-new 975cc liquid-cooled engine. It gets an aggressive riding stance, new bodywork with a slash-cut exhaust and new mirrors. The patent images also show extended rear fender and of course, the saree guard.

The technical details of all these bikes are scares at the moment but these models will be a part of a new family that will feature the new liquid-cooled DOHC 60-degree V-Twin with engine capacity ranging from 500cc to 1250cc. While the wait for these bikes is killing, we expect the bikes to hit the road next year.
